Statement from Dr. Nina--COVID-19 is not gone and the long-term effects will be with us for years to come. As we continue our efforts to return to normalcy, it is essential that we work as a community to stay safe. The best approach is to implement these recommendations to aid against the spread of COVID-19 and other illnesses. These recommendations include appropriately wearing masks, physically distancing, practicing good hand hygiene, and staying home when you feel sick.
Shanina Knighton, Ph.D. is a scientist, infection preventionist, consultant, scholar, nurse, and professor. Her research program is focused on applying bio-design processes to create new technologies to positively impact patient care. One example of technology-based innovations is a system for bedbound adults aimed at reducing hospitalized acquired infections. Dr. Knighton’s research is currently funded by National Institute on Aging.
Dr. Nina develops educational materials and guidelines used by many including governmental agencies to implement infection prevention policy and practices. She has received several national awards in both research and practical application. She is widely considered an expert in infection prevention in the Greater Cleveland, Ohio area and provides infection prevention strategies and trainings to countless companies and organizations in both public and private sectors.
